Annemarie's reflections on the Philosophy

Original Publication Date: March 23, 1998

On a regular cycle The Roeper School, as an accredited independent school, is evaluated by ISACS, its accrediting organization.  The first step of the process is a year-long self-study by the school community.  During the 1997-98 self-study year, Annemarie sent the school a letter in which she reflected on the school’s origins and the philosophy she and George instilled.

1999 Philosophy Statement

Focusing on the Roepers' experience as refugees

Original Publication Date: September, 1999

As part of the 1999 ISACS accreditation process (a periodic review of the school by its accrediting organization), the school’s Philosophy Committee wrote a restatement of the school’s philosophy. This statement in particular drew on the implications of the Roepers’ experience with the rise of Nazism and their need to flee their home. The committee’s consideration included Annemarie’s 1998 letter and statement, as well as community input. This statement was adopted by the Board of Trustees in September 1999. It is viewed as a restatement of the 1981 philosophy while not replacing it.

2010 Philosophy Statement

The most current expression of the school's philosophy

Original Publication Date: June 7, 2010

The school goes through a regular accreditation process that includes a year of self-study.  During that process, a philosophy committee often re-examines the previous versions of the philosophy and writes a new statement. This is the version written during the 2008-09 self-study year and adopted by the Board of Trustees in 2010. This is the most current expression of the school’s philosophy.
